You will need three 8” (20cm) round cakes to bring this blood-curdling creation to life. Visit a party store to get your hands on some must-have accesories like fake spider webs, plastic skulls and jelly eyeballs and round up some neighbours for trick-or-treating this year – your little one will have loads of fun!
How to decorate this Halloween cake
- Place the three cakes on top of each other on a cake board. Spread butter icing between the cakes before setting them down
- Cut out a slight hollow at the top of the cake. This is where the stalk will go
- Cut away a bit of the bottom of the cake for a rounded, pumpkin-like shape
- Colour fondant icing orange and roll it out large enough to cover the cakes right down to the board. Remember to spread a bit of butter icing over the cake before placing the fondant on top Cut away any excess around the bottom and tuck the icing under the cake for a smooth finish
- Colour some fondant green and mould a pumpkin stalk around a skewer. Insert this into the hollow at the top of the cake.
- Use some of this green fondant to make some leaves and tendrils
- Then, colour some fondant black and cut out a pair of eyes, a nose and a jagged mouth for the jack-o-lantern. Attach these to the pumpkin with a bit of water.
