The 3rd trimester: Week 29
Every week that passes improves the likelihood that your baby will be born strong and healthy.
Your baby
How your baby’s growing:
Your baby's bones are hardening, which may mean a well-placed kick will take your breath away! Those original flutters of movement may be little more than a faint memory now as your baby leaps into action mode - you may be feeling more than a few hard jabs and punches these days. Your baby should be moving at least 10 times an hour now. If she's less active, don't panic, but be sure to tell your GP or Gynae.
Your body
How you may be feeling:
Your baby's adrenal glands are producing a chemical which will be made into estriol (a form of estrogen) by the placenta. This estriol is thought to stimulate the production of prolactin by your body, and the prolactin makes you produce milk. So even if your baby comes early, you'll still be able to breastfeed. It also has a sedating effect so you may start to feel the need for naps once again!
Tip of the week
One of the best cures for restless sleep is plenty of exercise. But from now on you'll have to be careful how you do it. Walking is safe and easy - it's the old-fashioned favourite, and it's still the best. Check out our walking workouts, pull on those takkies, slap on some sunscreen, and get out there.
But do remember, first things first: get your doctor's approval. Some conditions preclude any form of exercise. Second: remember that if exercise becomes uncomfortable or painful at any time, stop and call your doctor immediately.
